Covers/ Luis Urculo

Covers/Luis Urculo from Luis Urculo on Vimeo.

"The work is a reconstruction and review of iconic monumental pieces of architecture whose image is built by objects to change the perception of this universal masterworks.
The concept is based on the music covers where the original is manipulated, re-represented, revisited to create something new."

Appropriation Project: Lydia J.

HA Schult ‘trash people'

Eden Project near Cornwall

The quote: "One man's trash is another man's treasure" is the main theme that revolves around my final project. In today's society, many of us throw away objects that we may consider as trash, however to some other people it may actually be something of worth or need. My plan for my final project is to take the quote above use it into my final project. My idea was to go around town to find recycled or thrown away objects that could be useful to make a 3D sculpture which will be decided later .

Final Project Idea by Daisy Dai

For my final project, I hope that I'll have a chance to use appropriation towards the paintings by Joan MirĂ³, a Catalan Spanish painter, sculptor and ceramicist.  I would like to focus on his paintings, because I love his style. He has a unique, distinctive style, with bright colors and his signature shapes. He is considered as someone who follows the surrealism movement, but he spent much time on developing and studying the shapes, lines, the color hues, and the delicate balance between them. His paintings appear to be very childish, but each and every detail was carefully planned and made. I hope to choose a painting of his, and perhaps move the shapes, lines, and dots and the colors and still try to make the painting look good.

Here are some of his paintngs :

For my project, I wish to combine surrealism with modern art, to convey the objects in the frame through the simplest shapes and lines. I'll use acrylic on canvas, but I'll have to think more about the subject of my painting before I could decide on one.

Periphery of architecture- artists works

"I no longer know what architecture is or what an architect does. A project offers a complex web of possibilities, multiple unforeseen chapters to create a new research focus. I am interested in the peripheral side to architecture, the processes, developments, and approaches that can be manipulated, sampled and translated to other scales and adapted to the work as it takes shape."

Readymade architecture with Bruce Emmet- part 1

Architecture is a great part of everyday life. Bruce Emmet's workshop is a two-part (because he's got so many ideas for us to do) photo-based, spatial intervention to appropriate spaces around us.

1. Collage exercise: finding ‘architectural’ forms (not straightforward architecture)  from encyclopaedias and magazines

Collaboration- sharing thoughts with peers first. What does 'architectural' mean?

"Structure, shape, segments, curves, geometric, complexity, windows, lines, 3D, minimal, system, Tetris, symmetry, creation, Metrix..." (What else did I miss?)

3. Discovery walkabout:  readymade architecture on Granville Island
Feel free to download these images Bruce took for your idea sketch if you like.

There wasn't quite enough time to do idea sketch for most of us, but architectural modelling in the studio and site intervention is to be continued this Sunday.
