Appropriation Final Project Landon

1. The City of Vancouver, BC, Canada.*
* Materials** that can be collected in the city for free. Use of apparatus is OK. e.g. saw, camera
** e.g. waste, cans, bottles, driftwood, abandoned homeless signs, bird droppings, screws, leftover construction items

2. I've seen middle aged men in the city collecting cans and bottles. In UBC a man came on the bus I was in with a raft made of cans and duck tape and he was disassembling it the whole way. A beer can is a dime, a pop can is a nickle. If the job became a luxury rather than a necessity, a composition instead of a decomposition, what would come out of it?

  1. Interesting thoughts. Keep developing, here are some artists' works for you to look at.

-Erica Stocking's way of creating sculptures, moving materials from one to another, loaning etc. must have been interesting too? let me know what you thought from the previous workshop.

  2. That Koh installation is like a gold mine, with the natural light coming in. Skyline's got like the playful quality to it (the colored rubber bands, miniature craft cityscape) that de kooning's rider has that i want my project to have. I think I've missed out on an important part of Erica's workshop...

I've left it all very vague but I'm thinking the project will gradually be realized as I continue collecting. May continue posting more notes here.
